URBAN PRODUCTIONS BOLDLY PRESENTS:
MIKE JAMES - CARROLL CADENCE - ROBERT URBAN - JEREMY BLUE - BRENDA EVANS
Thursday, June 13, 2002 - 8pm
Live at THE ACOUSTIC CAFE in Bridgeport, CT -
a special, multi-artist acoustic music concert featuring
a galaxy of star performers from the vibrant GLBT rock,
pop & folk music scene.
This 21 yr old out blues/funk/alternative artist creates his music via his own indie label - REDSIREN RECORDS. Based in Waterbury, CT - young Mike draws influences from the likes of Tori Amos, George Michael, and even 80’s pop phenomenon Tiffany. At this show he will be joined by special guest artist JEREMY BLUE."...already a seasoned performer - acting, singing and modeling since he was 11... Mike James brings an innovative style to music" - WWW.ROLLINGSTONE.COM
- this Norwalk, CT based singer/songwriter performs regularly throughout Fairfield County as well as all over the East Coast. This summer she recorded her debut CD "EVOLVE" with the folk duo THE KENNEDYS.
- "Comfortable, friendly and completely at ease at the microphone... her performance was so haunting and hypnotic, it almost seemed irreverant to applaud" - FAIRFIELD COUNTY WEEKLY (Cadence will be joined at this concert by fellow local
singer/songwriter BRENDA EVANS)
With 3 original CD releases to his credit, this Fairfield County born singer/songwriter/producer/recording engineer owns & operates his own Manhattan-based music production company - URBAN PRODUCTIONS. Winner of 2 OUTMUSIC 2001 "OMA" Awards, nominated for a 2001 INDEPENDENT MUSIC "IMA" Award, and named one of 10 important new voices in modern rock by PROGRESSION Rock Magazine.
- "A rare find indeed, the music of queer rock-artist Robert Urban combines a knack for gifted pop melodies with a lyrically insightful blend of rock that's hard to top" - 20TH CENTURY GUITAR MAGAZINE.
Performing from Manhattan to Massachusetts, from Connecticut to Highland New York, Blue's music is finding a home in Northeastern USA. Jeremy has written both lyrics and music for most material, yet also enjoys putting original music to the text of great writers like Langston Hughes and William Shakespeare, as well as freshly interpreting well-known songs from the 20's and 30's.
Some self-initiated “spiritual homework” led Jeremy to founding DreamBorn Productions in Pawling, NY. DreamBorn is currently preparing Blue's first full-length release, Embracing This. The recording, featuring ten original songs, as well as a blues/ballad rendition of “If I Only Had a Brain,” will be available this Spring.
Jeremy has been welcome by a diversity of audiences. Perhaps Aynsley Vandenbroucke, founder of Greenwich Village's GATHERING GROUP, understands why. She writes, “Jeremy Blue is a true performer... the perfect combination of raw energy and immaculate technique.”
Brenda was chosen as a 1997 New Folk finalist at the prestigious KERRVILLE FOLK FESTIVAL. Additionally, she's been a featured performer at major folk venues all throughout Connecticut & Massachussetts. In 1998, Brenda released her first CD, "waiting here for you".
- "This singer writes intriguing acoustic-pop songs, and delivers them in a smooth, soothing style. I can attest to the fact that she's able to deliver the goods on stage, too!" - MIKE HORYCZUN, WPKN RADIO, BRIDGEPORT, CT
